Bitwarden bitwarden/server

Open-source password manager with browser, desktop, mobile and CLI clients; use the hosted service or self-host the official server with Docker.

Bitwarden at a glance

Checked 15 Oct 2026

Bitwarden is a full password manager (server v2026.10.0, Oct 2026). Server code is AGPL-3.0 and clients are GPL-3.0, but both repos also hold a /bitwarden_license folder under a non-OSI commercial licence. The internal SDK is dual-licensed GPL-3.0 or Bitwarden SDK License, with GPL-only builds available. Cure53 audited the core app, desktop app and browser extension in 2025. Self-hosting needs Docker, 2 GB RAM and a free installation id from bitwarden.com; some team and enterprise features need a paid licence.
