Stoat (formerly Revolt) at a glance

Checked 15 Oct 2026

Stoat, formerly Revolt, is a Rust and TypeScript chat platform modelled on Discord: servers, text channels, DMs and LiveKit voice and video. The backend is AGPL-3.0; self-hosting uses the stoatchat/self-hosted Docker setup on a server with at least 2 vCPU and 2 GB RAM (Ubuntu recommended). Most official apps do not yet connect to self-hosted instances, so users rely on the web app or PWA. It is aimed at communities more than workplaces: no Slack-style workspace admin, compliance or enterprise SSO is documented.
