ShareX at a glance
Checked 16 Oct 2026ShareX (40k stars, v21.0.0 Jul 2026) is a Windows-only capture tool: screenshots, screen recording and GIFs, an annotation editor and a video trimmer. After capture it can upload to many destinations, including your own S3, Google Cloud Storage or Cloudflare R2 bucket or a custom uploader, and copy the URL to the clipboard, which gives a Loom-like quick link. GPL-3.0, free, no account. It does not host a watch page, comments, transcripts or analytics, and there is no macOS or Linux version.
RepoQuarry. “ShareX.” Checked 16 Oct 2026. https://repoquarry.dev/projects/sharexHow much of Loom does it replace?
3 of 6 jobs. Records the screen and uploads for a link to storage you configure; no viewer page, comments, AI or analytics. Windows only.
For timestamped comments and reactions on videos, AI titles, team video library and viewer analytics, see other Loom alternatives. You may also need to build an interface, an API server and hosting yourself.
