xterm.js at a glance
Checked 22 Oct 2026xterm.js (v6.0.0, ~21k stars) draws a full terminal in a web page, Electron or Tauri window. It runs bash, vim, tmux and other curses apps with mouse support, Unicode and IME input, and a screen reader mode. It is only the screen: you connect it to a pseudoterminal such as node-pty or portable-pty to run a real shell. Addons add fit-to-size, search, links, images and WebGL rendering. MIT, installed from npm as @xterm/xterm. A library for developers, not an end-user app.
