StyleTTS 2 yl4579/StyleTTS2

Research text-to-speech model using style diffusion and adversarial training, with pretrained LJSpeech and LibriTTS checkpoints.

StyleTTS 2 at a glance

Checked 15 Oct 2026

Research code for the StyleTTS 2 paper (arXiv 2306.07691). Code is MIT; the pretrained checkpoints on Hugging Face carry no licence file, only usage terms in the README requiring you to disclose synthetic speech or have the speaker's permission. Inference runs from Jupyter notebooks and depends on a GPL-licensed phonemizer, which is why it is not bundled. English-focused (the PL-BERT module is English-only). Inference hardware is not documented. Last push to the repo was August 2024.

How much of ElevenLabs does it replace?

2 of 4 jobs. Research-grade English TTS with zero-shot speaker adaptation from the LibriTTS model; inference is via notebooks, not a ready app, and other languages need a different PL-BERT.

Partial: Speech generation Partial replacement
Partial: Voice cloning Partial replacement
No: Speech recognition Not covered
No: Voice agents Not covered

For speech recognition, voice agents, see other ElevenLabs alternatives. You may also need to build an interface, an API server and hosting yourself.

How much of Descript does it replace?

2 of 3 jobs. Voice cloning and text-to-speech only; no transcript-based audio or video editing.

No: Transcript-based editing Not covered
Partial: Voice cloning Partial replacement
Partial: Speech generation Partial replacement

For transcript-based editing, see other Descript alternatives. You may also need to build an interface, an API server and hosting yourself.

Runs on my machine? Confirmed: Yes, Python/PyTorch inference via the provided notebooks Please refer to Inference_LJSpeech.ipynb (single-speaker) and Inference_LibriTTS.ipynb (multi-speaker) for details. github.com · StyleTTS2#inference ↗ 1d ago
Code licence Confirmed: MIT MIT License. Copyright (c) 2023 Aaron (Yinghao) Li github.com · LICENSE ↗ 1d ago
Model weights licence Partial: No licence on the Hugging Face model repos; README usage terms require disclosing that speech is synthetic unless you have the speaker's permission Before using these pre-trained models, you agree to inform the listeners that the speech samples are synthesized by the pre-trained models, unless you have the permission to use the voice you synthesize. github.com · StyleTTS2#inference ↗ 1d ago
Commercial use Partial: Code is MIT, but the pretrained weights have no formal licence (only disclosure/permission terms) and inference relies on a GPL-licensed phonemizer; an MIT-only package using gruut exists at lower quality However, the inference depends on a GPL-licensed package, so it is not included directly in this repository. github.com · StyleTTS2#inference ↗ 1d ago
Paid services needed? Confirmed: None required The pretrained StyleTTS 2 model on LibriTTS can be downloaded at https://huggingface.co/yl4579/StyleTTS2-LibriTTS/tree/main. github.com · StyleTTS2#inference ↗ 1d ago
Hardware Partial: Inference requirements not documented. CPU inference is suggested as a fix for noise on older GPUs. Fine-tuning example took about 4 hours on four NVIDIA A100s. Basically, you will need to use more modern GPUs or do inference on CPUs. github.com · StyleTTS2#common-issues-2 ↗ 1d ago
Operating systems Partial: Linux install steps (apt espeak-ng) and an extra Windows PyTorch step are given; macOS not mentioned On Windows add: pip install torch torchvision torchaudio --index-url https://download.pytorch.org/whl/cu118 -U github.com · StyleTTS2#pre-requisites ↗ 1d ago
Setup effort Confirmed: Medium. Clone, pip install requirements, install phonemizer and espeak-ng, download checkpoints, run notebooks Also install phonemizer and espeak if you want to run the demo github.com · StyleTTS2#pre-requisites ↗ 1d ago
