radare2 at a glance

Checked 15 Oct 2026

radare2 is a UNIX-style command-line reversing framework (v6.2.4, Oct 2026) for disassembly, analysis, emulation, debugging (local or via gdb/windbg servers) and binary patching, scriptable via r2pipe. Mostly LGPL-3.0, but plugins carry their own licences, some GPL. Decompilation and AI-assisted analysis come from separate plugins (r2ghidra, r2dec, decai/r2ai). Official GUI is iaito. Hardware needs are not documented.

How much of IDA Pro does it replace?

3 of 4 jobs. Command-line first; decompilation needs a plugin such as r2ghidra or r2dec; AI help via the separate r2ai/decai plugins.

Partial: Disassembly Partial replacement
Partial: Decompilation Partial replacement
Partial: Debugging Partial replacement
No: AI-assisted analysis Not covered

For AI-assisted analysis, see other IDA Pro alternatives. You may also need to build an interface, an API server and hosting yourself.
