# Proton Pass

> Proton Pass is a hosted password manager. Its Android, iOS, shared Rust core and CLI clients are GPL-3.0 on GitHub (the web and browser extension code is in Proton's WebClients repo), but the server is not open, so you need a Proton account and cannot self-host. Apps exist for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and major browsers. Cure53 audited the mobile apps, browser extensions and API; Proton says all issues but one medium finding were fixed. Some features need a paid Proton plan.

## What it replaces
- 1Password: Password vault with autofill, Vault sync across devices (partial). Hosted vault with open clients; not self-hostable. Sharing, passkeys and other parity not checked.
