# OpenBot

> OpenBot (v0.51.1, Oct 2026, ~1.8k stars) is a desktop app where each agent keeps its own workspace, chat, queue and memories, backed by Codex, Claude Code, Grok CLI, Gemini, Cursor, Cline, OpenCode or local models. Agents message each other, hand off tasks, share files, drive an embedded browser and run routines on a schedule or webhook. Installers for Windows, macOS and Linux; you sign in to each provider's CLI. A development preview: agents run with full local access. PolyForm Noncommercial licence; desktop analytics on by default (can be turned off).

## Facts, with sources

| Question | Status | Answer | Source | Checked |

| Runs on my machine? | Confirmed | Yes, desktop app or self-hosted Linux server/Docker; agents call their providers' cloud models unless you use a local model | https://github.com/nightly-labs/openbot#what-works | 2026-10-27 |
| Code licence | No | PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 (source-available, not OSI); versions up to 0.1.11 remain Apache-2.0 | https://github.com/nightly-labs/openbot/blob/main/LICENSE | 2026-10-28 |
| Model weights licence | Confirmed | No model weights; agents use your Codex, Claude, Grok or other provider sign-in, or a local model | https://github.com/nightly-labs/openbot#agent-setup | 2026-10-27 |

| Paid services needed? | Partial | OpenBot itself is free; agents need a provider plan or key (ChatGPT plan for Codex, Claude subscription or API key, xAI login or XAI\_API\_KEY for Grok, Google AI Pro/Ultra for Gemini), or OpenCode free models or a local Ollama/LM Studio model. Managed hosted servers on request | https://github.com/nightly-labs/openbot#agent-setup | 2026-10-27 |
| Hardware | Unknown | Not documented | none found | - |
| Operating systems | Confirmed | Windows 10+ x64 (.exe), macOS 13+ Apple silicon and Intel (.dmg), Linux x64 and arm64 (AppImage); headless Linux server and Docker image; iPhone (TestFlight) and Android companion apps | https://github.com/nightly-labs/openbot#install | 2026-10-27 |
| Setup effort | Confirmed | Easy; run the installer, then download or sign in to a provider CLI during onboarding (Claude Code on Windows also needs Git for Windows) | https://github.com/nightly-labs/openbot#install | 2026-10-27 |
