# Onlook

> This repo is Onlook's earlier open-source, browser-based editor (Apache-2.0); the company's current product is a separate Mac desktop app whose source is not yet published. The editor creates Next.js + Tailwind apps from text or an image, lets you edit them Figma-style on a canvas with AI chat, and can deploy. Self-hosting is heavy: Bun, Docker, a local Supabase, plus CodeSandbox and OpenRouter keys; user apps run in CodeSandbox. Next.js + Tailwind projects only. Last commit July 2026.

## What it replaces
- Lovable: Build a full-stack web app from a chat prompt, See the running app update as it is built, Change the UI by clicking on it (Visual Edits), Publish the app to a live URL (Publish) (partial). Strong visual editing; Next.js + Tailwind only; needs CodeSandbox and OpenRouter accounts; hosting needs a Freestyle account.
- Bolt.new: Build a full-stack web app from a chat prompt, Run and preview the app in the browser (WebContainers), Publish the app to a live URL (Bolt hosting / Netlify) (partial). Apps run in CodeSandbox cloud containers rather than in the browser; Next.js + Tailwind only.
