# Nextcloud Talk

> Nextcloud Talk is the AGPL-3.0 chat and calls app for a Nextcloud server: group and private conversations, file sharing from Nextcloud Files, mentions, screen sharing, federation with other Nextcloud servers, bots and webhooks. You need a working Nextcloud on Linux first. Its built-in signalling suits small and medium installs, and users behind strict NATs need a TURN server. Chat is simpler than Slack's, with no documented Slack-style workspace features.

## What it replaces
- Slack: Channels and direct messages, Voice and video huddles, Integrations (partial). Good fit if you already run Nextcloud; simpler chat than Slack, with calls and screen sharing built in.
