Mem0 (open source) at a glance
Checked 16 Oct 2026Mem0 is the Apache-2.0 open-source core behind the paid Mem0 Platform: a library (pip install mem0ai, npm mem0ai) or Docker-based self-hosted server that extracts memories from conversations and retrieves them per user, session or agent. It needs an LLM and an embedding model, OpenAI by default; Ollama is documented for local models. The README says benchmark scores reflect the managed platform's proprietary optimisations not in the open-source SDK, and the self-hosted server only has "teasers" of advanced features.
RepoQuarry. “Mem0 (open source).” Checked 16 Oct 2026. https://repoquarry.dev/projects/mem0How much of Mem0 Platform does it replace?
1 of 3 jobs. Same core memory layer, self-hosted; some platform optimisations and advanced features are not in the open-source version.
For memory for coding agents, knowledge graph memory, see other Mem0 Platform alternatives. You may also need to build an interface, an API server and hosting yourself.
