# Jitsi Meet

> Jitsi Meet is a mature, Apache-2.0 video meeting server and web app with HD audio and video, screen sharing, in-call chat, polls and mobile apps. It covers calls only, not persistent channels; Zulip and Rocket.Chat can link to it. Self-host on Debian 12+ or Ubuntu 24.04+ packages or Docker. Docs suggest 8 GB RAM (4 GB for small meetings), about 4 dedicated cores and a fast network link; recording with Jibri needs far more.

## What it replaces
- Slack: Voice and video huddles (partial). Replaces huddles and calls only; pair with a chat server for channels and messages.
- Zoom Workplace Pro: Video meetings, Screen sharing (partial). Video meetings and content sharing cover live calls; automated summaries, cloud recording operations and Zoom's wider Workplace suite are not covered.
