Checked 15 Oct 2026GIMP is a mature raster image editor for Windows, macOS and Linux (stable 3.2.6, 10 Sep 2026). The GitHub repo is a read-only mirror of GNOME's GitLab. The application is GPL-3.0-or-later and libgimp is LGPL; the project's FAQ says you can use GIMP commercially. It covers most everyday Photoshop photo-editing work but not Photoshop's generative AI features. The project bans genAI-generated contributions. Hardware needs are not documented.
