MIT browser fingerprinting library that hashes 40+ browser signals into a visitor ID, entirely in the visitor's browser with no server.

FingerprintJS at a glance
Checked 20 Oct 2026FingerprintJS (v5.3.0, Oct 2026, ~28.6k stars, ~900k npm downloads a week) reads canvas, audio, fonts, WebGL, screen and other browser signals and returns a hashed visitorId with a confidence score. MIT again since v5.0.0 (v4.x was BSL-1.1, non-production only). Client-side only, so IDs collide between identical devices, drift after about two weeks and can be spoofed. No bot or VPN detection; that is the paid Fingerprint Identification API. npm builds send rare usage pings unless monitoring is turned off.

- Personal use

- For a business
- Confirmed: Yes
2 of 3 jobs. Gives a free visitor ID for basic fraud and abuse checks, with much lower accuracy and shorter ID lifetime; no Smart Signals, webhooks or server-side signals.
For bot, see other Fingerprint Identification alternatives. You may also need to build an interface, an API server and hosting yourself.

Where these numbers come from
- Stars, forks, releases: GitHub's public API, fetched every night (last fetch today).
- Star history: counted every night since 21 Oct 2026; the dashed part before that is estimated from the dates people starred the repo.
- Commits and people committing: GitHub's repository statistics, counted weekly. Names are never stored.
- Pull requests and issues: counted from GitHub for the last 30 days.
- Stars show popularity, not quality. The facts below are checked separately, by reading the project's own documentation. How we check.
